about

If ever I've played in a "doomed" band, Altavilla was it, and fit the bill too well. This second studio album was never completed and marked the eventual end of the band. Everything contained in this description is accurate and really happened. Good or bad, I always put the truth in my journals.

The aborted 2nd E.P. recorded May 2011 in Tampa at Atomic studios. Drummer Adam Revak & late comer, guitarist Rob Osenton plotted & executed their departure during these recordings. Not ironically Osenton had announced at his first rehearsal with the band, he'd "steal Altavilla's drummer" and he did! Rob's inexperience in the studio and self-inflated ego coupled with "Engineer" Mark Nikolich's "methods" (as an engineer) *** mixed the tracks May 19, 2011. Those two, Revak's departure and Dan's quickly fading objectiveness insured this project would be a nightmare. It's all pretty silly now but was not so funny back when. Revak & Osenton were both great musicians who showed a cavalier disregard for man-code and basic band protocol not to mention cowardice and they've played with each other ever since. Cute couple, destined to be big fish in a small pond. Rich proud boys who are patently un-rock n roll.

The first two (more complete) tracks were mixed July 26, 2011 and "overseen" yours truly. By then the wasted overdubs and additional tinkering made it obvious that the album (and band) were of a substandard quality at best. After personally sinking more than $1000 into this "album", I walked away refusing any further involvement.

I decided to post the entire album for the hell of it. It's all pretty ancient shit now and dead history. Besides, the truth is all that matters and God as my witness, this is it.

After Altavilla's "re-launch" (Oh boy) March 2014 show with a young confused drummer (Navy Bean), Dan's state of mind deteriorated to alarming proportions. it was so weird and strange, his singing deteriorated to a hoarse out of tune scream at times. Dan really could sing amazing lead vocals. Brilliantly.

Altavilla's Aug. 2, 2014 farewell show was anti-climactic to say the least. And not because of the drumming. My good Georgia friend, Eddie Allen not only learned a set and played great, he sat in with Tramadols as the opener too! After this show Dan and I drifted further apart. We did our last set of demos in April 2015. By late 2016, Dan and I no longer stayed in touch and still don't. This is typical in bands but should also count as a cautionary tale about true friends and honesty. It's still a bummer end to a once great and promising band. Then and now. Despite what is written here, I cared about all parties and choose to remember the good times. The archivist in me felt it necessary to put some account of this into fixed form. Warts and all and I've left a ton of other good and bad stuff out so....That's all.
